Richard Brateman, 89, of Boynton, Beach, Florida died October 7, 2020. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he grew up in Paterson and lived most of his adult life in Fair Lawn and Wyckoff before relocating to Florida in 2017.

He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Dix.

He frequently said if you love your work, you'll never work a day in your life. He enjoyed over 60 years (from 1953-2014) in different roles and ultimately became a partner at Bell Container Corp., a corrugated box manufacturing company started by his father-in-law in Newark.

He was a longtime member of Temple Beth Sholom in Fair Lawn and Temple Emanuel in Franklin Lakes.

His interests included spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, eating at his favorite restaurants, cars, and early morning walks. He was a NJ YMHA Handball Champion in 1952.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Cele Brateman (Bell), two daughters Robin Brateman-Kaplan and Lisa Brateman, five grandchildren Laura, Brett, Abbey, Carly, and Jordan, and one great-granddaughter Elsie.

A burial will be held at King Solomon Memorial Park in Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Emanuel in Franklin Lakes or Temple Beth Sholom in Fair Lawn.
