Born in Patterson, NJ, Jan grew up in Teaneck, NJ. He graduated Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in Accounting. Following college, he served in the Army Reserve as a medic.
Jan married in 1970, and shortly thereafter moved to Ramsey.
Jan was a dedicated 28-year volunteer in the Ramsey Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and served as the Treasurer for nearly half of that time.
He was also a congregant of Temple Beth Haverim Shir Shalom for 40 years, and had served as the Men's Club President.
He is predeceased by his father, Philip, and mother, Julia. He is survived by his wife Jane, sons Peter and Steven, daughter in law Hope, grandchildren Joel and JD, and brother Sandy.

Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth Haverim Shir Shalom (280 Ramapo Valley Rd, Mahwah, NJ 07430) - on Sunday, February 12th at 11:00 AM.
Immediately following the service at the Temple, the interment will take place at Sharon Gardens Cemetery (273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595). Directions from the Temple to the cemetery will be provided to those who require them.
The family will be sitting Shiva starting Sunday evening at the Temple from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Shiva will continue at the family residence on Monday & Tuesday, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
