Robert Laks Kraus, age 89, died Saturday, April 7, after battling a series of illnesses for several months. Born in the Bronx, NY, he attended New York City public schools including the Bronx High School of Science, & received his B.S. in Business and M.S. in Statistics from New York University. His business career spanned many executive roles at Texaco, American Cyanamid, New York Hospital, and The Fantus Company. He served his country with pride as an Army soldier, including in South Korea. In his retirement, he was a dedicated genealogist, tracing his family’s history back 10 generations and teaching others how to study their ancestral roots. He was an active and dedicated member of Temple Beth Tikvah in Wayne for over 50 years, the treasurer of the charity, “Myriam’s Dream” for many years, and volunteered for “Meals on Wheels.” Devoted husband to his sweetheart Roberta Mae (Passeltiner) Kraus for more than 67 years, loving father to Beth Sher and Rabbi Jonathan Kraus and his wife, Amy Levine Kraus, adoring grandfather to Jessica Sher Marcus and her husband, Davey Marcus, to Julie Sher, Jacob Kraus, and Abigail Kraus. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 9th at Temple Beth Tikvah (950 Preakness Avenue, Wayne NJ) at 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, (735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Bea Weisberg Memorial Scholarship Fund at Temple Beth Tikvah.
