Funeral Date: Monday, 06 January 2020

Vivian David Wantuch, 95, of Paramus, NJ, passed away on January 05, 2020. Born and raised in Bronx, NY, Vivian graduated from HunterCollege in 1946 with a major in Anthropology and Sociology as well as Education. She proudly passed the onerous test to become a school teacher in the New York City Public Schools. She taught fourth grade. Years later, Vivian returned to university and earned a masters of library and information science at C.W. Post. As a librarian in Hackensack, she combined her two careers and became the liaison between the public library and the public schools.

Vivian embraced her role as a wife to Dezsö David. Theirs was a great romance. Vivian and Dezsö had a long, happy and exciting marriage.

Vivian also embraced her role as a mother to her beloved children Susan David (Bernie) and Peter David (Anne). She was president of the PTA and a Scout leader. She was the organizer of the almost-too-late Hebrew classes for girls and taught her children ecumenical respect for the religion of others.

Vivian was there for happy times and hard times in her family's life. She took care of each of her parents and of her mother-in-law when the time came, and of Dezsö when he became ill too young with cancer. She embraced her daughter-in-law Anne wholeheartedly. And Anne returned the love and has faithfully and lovingly stood beside Peter and Susan in caring for Vivian as her dementia deepened over the past seven very hard years.

Vivian's friendships were many and legion, from childhood and throughout her life. She didn't just make friends, she made lifelong friends at all stages of her life. Lillian Rifkin of blessed memory was Vivian's lifelong best friend who was more like a sister than a friend.

One of Vivian's most joyful roles in life was as Grandmommy to her three beloved granddaughters, Amy Belchatovski (Elliot), Adrian David and Cheryl David. Each girl in her turn was welcomed and adored by Vivian.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Glen Rock Jewish Center or Hadassah.
