Herman (Hy) Friedman, age, 91, born May3, 1925 died peacefully April 29, 2017.
Recently widowed, after 52 years of marriage to his beloved Sylvia (Krauss).
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he served in the Army during WW11 and fought on the beaches of Normandy receiving two (2) Purple Hearts. A life-long member of the Veterans of Foreign War as well as the Jewish War Veterans.
After his military service, he graduated with an Accounting Degree from St. John’s University. Employed with National Shirt Shops at their corporate headquarters for 25 years he retired in 1982. Moving to Florida in 1988 he spent 26 wonderful years traveling, golfing and spending time with friends and family.
Dedicated to serving the Jewish community, he was one of the founding members and was the first President of Beth Page L. I. Jewish Center. During his life he also served as President of Temple Emanuel in Paterson, NJ and as Treasurer of Temple Beth
Shalom in Coconut Creek, Florida.
Predeceased by his son, Martin (Cook), daughter Carole and brothers Seymour and Bernard. He will be greatly missed by his sister Betty Kuznitz, daughters Barbra Galletti, Eva Friedman, Rita Kornbluth Baker, son Joel Kornbluth and grandson Robert Thomas as well as nieces, nephews and friends across the country.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 12:30pm at Cedar Park – Beth El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
