Lillian (nee Polinsky) Gelman, age 94, of Clifton, formerly of Passaic, passed away suddenly on June 21, 2017, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. Born to Ida and Abraham Polinsky in Brooklyn, NY, on July 29, 1922, 5 minutes after her identical twin sister, Sarah Kearney, she was raised in Maywood, NJ. She was married for more than 40 years to the late Sol Gelman, a Passaic Police Detective and the love of her life.
Known for her sense of style as she was for her sparkling green eyes, her sunny disposition and warm, easy laugh, Lillian was happiest when she was surrounded by (and feeding) her family. She believed strongly in the power of unconditional love, praise, and matzoh ball soup, and readily showered all three upon her family. She also enjoyed singing, especially harmonizing with her sisters, playing the piano, and spending time at the beach.
Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, who was an inspiration to all. She was predeceased by her husband Sol, daughter Jane, and sisters Sarah and Ruth. She is survived by her loving daughters Dr. Marilyn Stearns (Richard) and Susan Waltman (Robert); dear siblings Eugene Polinsky and Hilda Adams; cherished grandchildren Allison Pagkalinawan (Jovito), Laura Stearns, and Jonathan Stearns (Keri), and great-granddaughter Genevieve; and by a number of loving nieces and nephews, who treasure the memory of her quiet grace, and the love and generosity she so effortlessly shared with all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 1:00 PM, at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel (Paramus, NJ). Shiva to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Dr. Susan Love Research FoundationDr. Susan Love Research Foundation
