Jules Kaplan, 81, of Paramus, New Jersey, passed away surrounded by his family, Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Jules is survived by his wife Shelly of 56 years, daughter Randee (Glenn) Fox, daughter Joanne, son Eric (Maureen) Kaplan, and grandchildren Ian (Morgan) and Emma Kaplan and Ethan, Parker, and Noah Fox. Jules was a loving and supportive father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone who was lucky enough to know him. He loved his family and was proud of each and every one of them. Jules was born on July 17, 1936, at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, to Joseph and Pearl (Klein) Kaplan. He was a loving brother to sister Myrna and brother Mel. He grew up in Newark and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and served in the military where he was stationed in Germany. He was lucky enough to meet his future wife Shelly (Kaye) on a blind date. His persistence ultimately paid off and they were married May 27, 1961 at the Clinton Manor in Newark, New Jersey. They lived in Irvington, New Jersey early on in their marriage and then moved to Hackensack, New Jersey, ultimately residing in Paramus, New Jersey where they raised their three children over the next 53 years. Jules worked at Bendix Aviation early on in his career. Always an entrepreneur, he then owned several successful small businesses. Jules was an avid military buff, loved to travel with his family, and played golf until he couldn’t. Golf was a passion that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He also loved working with his hands. He was a person you could depend on for advice when you needed it. Funeral services are at 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Robert Schoem’s Chapel (150 Route 4 East, Paramus, NJ), followed by internment at Cedar Park Cemetery (Paramus, NJ). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
