Herbert Krieger, 92, passed away peacefully on January 12, in Paramus, NJ. The eldest of six, Herb was born in Plattsburg, NY, and graduated from East Side High School in Paterson, NJ. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he received his degree in accounting from NYU thanks to the GI bill. Herb and his beloved wife, fellow Patersonian Gloria Sugar, raised their two children in Fair Lawn, NJ, and then moved first to Rivervale, NJ, and then to Lake Worth, FL. While living in NJ, Herb was a practicing CPA and founding partner of Krieger, Mintz & Rosenfeld, but his passion and dedication were to his community: Herb was a past president of the Paterson B'nai Brith Lodge #143, a vice president of the Wayne YMHA, and UJA Chairman of the North Jersey Federation. In Florida, Herb continued his work as a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser: He was president of The Fountains L.I.F.E. Foundation in Lake Worth, bringing medical health care to residents, and chaired the Hospice Golf Tournament at The Fountains. He and Gloria were honored by The State of Israel Bonds for their philanthropic efforts. Herb was also a volunteer tutor for 17 years at Highland Elementary School in West Palm Beach, president of his condominium at The Fountains in Lake Worth for over 20 years, and treasurer of The Fountains Condominium Operations.
Herb will be sorely missed by Gloria, his wife of almost 70 years; children Beth (Ira Deutchman) and Marc (Pat); grandchildren Jeff, Emily, Doug, Kate (Jason Groob); sister Irma Feffer; and a large, extended family of nephews, nieces and cousins who will miss him greatly.
Funeral is at Robert Schoem Menorah Chapel, Paramus NJ, on Monday, January 15, 2:30pm. Shiva will be at the home of Marc and Pat Krieger, 5 Ramapo Lane, Hillsdale, NJ, 6-9pm on Monday and Wednesday evening, and at the home of Beth Krieger and Ira Deutchman, 440 West End Avenue, #4A, NY, NY 10024, on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, 5-9pm.
