The Hillman Family announces with sadness the passing of Marilyn Hillman (nee Heller), the last of our Greatest Generation at age 89.
Marilyn was born in Queens, New York to Alexander and Beatrice Heller in 1928.
She always considered herself a "Fifth Av" girl and enjoyed being a proper, well dressed woman.
She met Bernard when he returned from service in Europe and they were married for 67 years until his passing in 2015. They were the first of the family to migrate across the Hudson River and settled first in Teaneck, then Bergenfield to start a family with son, Kenneth. They then bought their first home in New Milford and welcomed son Brian.
Marilyn was a working mom. Always there when we needed her, but really enjoyed her jobs at Huffman and Boyle Furniture and Crystal Clear Importing. A diligent, valued employee, she retired early to follow Bernie to Del Ray Beach, Florida in 1989 upon his retirement. Although they were far from family when their grandchildren were born, it was her pride and joy to keep them in her heart and enjoyed their visits to sunny Florida.
They enjoyed 21 years of sun and friendships in Florida but returned to New Jersey in 2010 and resided at Brighton Gardens, in West Orange. It was there that Marilyn lived her final days in the best of care and the most supportive people.
She leaves son, Kenneth and his partner Judy and his children Alex (Patterson) and Leah (Michael). Son, Brian and his wife Nancy and their children Danielle, Jessica, Joseph, and great grandson, Dylan, son of Jessica Hillman.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel, Paramus, NJ
Donations on Marilyn's behalf to a charity benefitting research and cures for progressive neurological disorders is welcomed.
