MORRIS FRIEDMANN, centenarian, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Fair Lawn, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018. A Holocaust survivor, he and the remnants of his immediate family immigrated to the US in 1949, settling in Paterson. Morris first worked for Kem Manufacturing Company in Fair Lawn as a mechanical engineer. He eventually established a home building business in 1964, partnering with his brother Arnold. After creating many Bergen County neighborhoods, Morris retired in his eighties.
After retirement Morris and his wife, Frieda, moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains. There, Morris became an active leader in the Jewish Council, where he employed his vast knowledge of Judaism and Jewish culture to guide and instruct residents. He was often called upon to chant Torah and Haftarah impromptu.
Morris lost his beloved wife, Frieda in 2016 after 67 years of marriage. They had met in Germany after World War 2, Frieda having lost most of her family.
