Barbara Hyman Shapiro, 90, passed away on April 25, 2018. Loving grandmother of nine and devoted mother to Dr. Michael Shapiro (Joan Abrams), Joseph Shapiro and Howard M. Shapiro (Shirley Brandman), she died peacefully surrounded by family at Washington Hospital Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Barbara spent her childhood in Albany, NY as the adored only child of Rebecca (Bebe) and Max (George) Hyman. Shortly after graduating from Albany State Teacher's College. Barbara married her true love, Dr. Paul Shapiro, and supported him through medical school and the establishment of his successful surgical career in New Jersey. She later completed a Master of Library Science and dedicated her work to libraries and her volunteer efforst to literacy through Brandeis and other community organizations. After Paul's death, Barbara was fortunate to find love and companionship with Herman (Bob) Mansfield who predeceased her. Barbara was a voracious reader of newspapers and mysteries, a well-informed political progressive and MSNBC junkie and an accomplished bridge player. Her wit, her charm and her sass will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1pm at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel 150 Route 4, Paramus , N.J. followed by internment at Cedar Park Cemetery.

The family will hold a shiva on Saturday night, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton.
