Harriet Mann, nee Griss, of Old Tappan, New Jersey, formerly of Fair Lawn, New Jersey died on Monday, May 14, at the age of 85, following a brave two-year battle with cancer. Mrs. Mann was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, attended Music and Art High School, and graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts.
Mrs. Mann taught elementary school and junior high school for several years. She was married 46 years to Dr. Sidney Mann, a Fair Lawn-based orthodontist who treated more than 5,000 patients over the course of his career. And she was an extremely talented artist whose watercolors and oil paintings were featured in New Jersey-area exhibitions.
Mrs. Mann was predeceased by Dr. Mann, her parents Pauline and Sam Griss, and her sister Joan Ziegler. She is survived by her devoted children, Steven Mann of Riverdale, New York, and his wife Robyn, and Linda Spelling of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, and her husband Ian; cherished grandchildren Justin Mann, Molly, Sydney and Giselle Mann, and Max and Jamie Spelling; nephews Larry, Sam and Ted; and niece Susan; and sister-in-law Racelle.
Funeral services are 11 Am, Wednes, at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel Paramus, followed by a burial at King Solomon Memorial Park in Clifton. The family will receive visitors at the Mann residence in Old Tappan and and then at Steven Mann’s residence in Riverdale . In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in the name of Harriet Griss Mann to the American Cancer Society.
