Jack Cappel passed away on Sunday, July 15th 2018 at the age of 100 in Suffern, NY of natural causes. He was born in Montreal, Canada to Bessie (nee Liberman) and Benjamin Cappel. He served in the Canadian Army from 1939 to 1946. He emigrated to New York in 1949, and began his career in the confectionery industry the same year as a messenger for English toffee supplier Edward Sharp & Sons. He eventually became vice-president of the company and in 1960 went to work for food importer Adolph Goldmark & Sons. He founded Dorval Trading Co., Ltd. in 1966 with his wife, Florence, and acted as chairman until the time of his passing. His leadership helped build Dorval into a significant presence in the confectionery and specialty food industries. During his career he was honored as a National Candy Wholesalers Association Diplomat (now CDA), and in 2002 he was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame. In 2016 he was named to the Specialty Food Association’s Hall of Fame. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence, his three brothers, Harry, Morris and Julius, and their wives. He is survived by 3 children, Beverly, Roberta and her husband Kal Rothman, and Jonathan, and 3 grandchildren, Sam, Ben and Olivia. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel in Paramus, NJ. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
