Mildred B. Weiss, 89, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, peacefully passed away surrounded by loving family, on August 11th, 2018, after a short illness. Beloved wife of the late Murray for 58 years, devoted mother of Steven and his partner Martha Rowan, Amy Kantor and her husband Dan, and loving grandmother of Sherri, Evan, and Stephen. She is also survived by her brother Saul. Mildred impacted the lives of hundreds of people, both young and old. She taught first grade for 35 years, most of which were spent at Lyncrest School in Fair Lawn. Upon retirement she missed teaching and spent 15 years tutoring Russian immigrants in Fair Lawn, helping them to learn English, and acclimate to life in their new home. A resident of Fair Lawn for 50 years, she was an active member of the Fair Lawn Jewish Center congregation, Hadassah, American Jewish Congress, and the National Council of Jewish Women. Mildred also enjoyed attending a variety of lectures and classes, including weekly Lunch and Learn with her Rabbi. She belonged to a number of book clubs and treasured her many friendships. Service will be held on Tuesday, August 14th at 11 am. at Robert Schoem's Menorah Chapel, 150 West State Route 4, Paramus, New Jersey. Memorial contributions in Mildred's memory may be made to Project ALS, Hadassah, or the Fair Lawn Jewish Center.
