Steven P. Baron, 47, of Fairview, New Jersey, passed away on September 1, 2018 after a long and brave struggle with cancer.
Born in Leonia, New Jersey, Steven was a lifelong student with a passion for teaching and learning. He attended Brown University and graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University. He pursued advanced degrees in Classics, Mathematics, and Philosophy at the University of Texas, Austin; University of Georgia; Rutgers University; Harvard University; and Columbia University.
The most joyful experience of his professional career was as Professor of Mathematics at West Point Military Academy in NY. He was as beloved by his many students as he was by family and friends. His enthusiasm for math and languages was contagious, and his caring commitment to his family and pets was unparalleled. Throughout the course of his too few years, he touched the lives of many.
Steven is preceded in death by his father, William, his revered mentor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gladys; their children, Jackelyn, Arron, and Jennifer and her husband Sean; their granddaughter, Olivia Rue; his mother, Karen; his brother, David and his wife Tasha; his sister, Amy and her husband Jeff; and by his nieces and nephews, Daniel, Theo, Penelope, Gigi, and Jude.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 5 at 11:00am, with burial services to follow at 1:00pm at United Hebrew Cemetery on Staten Island. The family will host a celebration of Steven's life on Thursday, September 6.
