Funeral Date: Sunday, 02 December 2018

 Carol Fine (1957-2018)

Carol Fine died last week at her home in Highland Park, New Jersey after a long and determined struggle with cardiac illness. She was born April 20,1957 in Paterson, New Jersey to Melvin and Selma Fine.

Ms. Fine was a graduate of the City of New York School of Law and of Rutgers University in New Brunswick. She practiced law with Legal Services of North Jersey and several law firms and taught criminal law at Monmouth University. She participated in Committees of the New Jersey Supreme Court and of Non-Governmental Organizations at the United Nations. She also served as a housing counsellor for the Housing Coalition of Middlesex County and was a Trustee of Somerset Community Action (SCAP) and had recently joined the board of Friends of Adult Substance Abuse Program (ASAP). She wrote or edited several publications focusing on the criminal justice system or on internships and the mentoring of students.

For years, she taught undergraduates at Rutgers University and served as Director and Pre-Law Advisor of Rutgers' Administration of Justice Internship Program. Helping students develop their education and career goals continued to be her passion, along with her passion for swimming. In recent years she served as a career counsellor at Berkeley College, first in New York and, most recently, in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

Many of her students became friends and often stayed connected for years. Many of her friends became like family, especially Manu Raj Vanshi and his children Manav and Mati, Lisa King and her son, Peter, and too many more to list. She was a loving great-aunt to Lewis, Emma, and Lucia. She is survived by her brothers Joseph of Montclair and Robert and his wife, Barbara of Arlington, Massachusetts and Brooklyn, and by her niece and nephews, Pheral, David, Eric, and Leslie. Carol and her former sister-in-law Barbara A. Fine remained particularly close.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, December 2nd at noon. Carol's family will be receiving guests at Joe's home in Montclair that Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
