Howie Ritt, 67, amazing Husband, Dad, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Pops, passed away fighting tooth and nail on January 10th, 2019. Born in Passaic, NJ, Howie was a 60+ year resident of Fair Lawn, NJ. He graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 1969 and was a proud teammate of the FLHS 1968 State Champion Lacrosse Team. He moved on to Happy Valley and attended Penn State University where he graduated in three years in 1972. After that, he moved to West Philly where he attended dental school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1976. Howie moved back to Fair Lawn and opened his own dental practice in 1979. Eventually his wife, Patty, joined him in the office, which became a cornerstone in town for 39 years. Many of you reading this may have had his fingers poking around in your mouth at one point or another.
Along with his practice, he was active in the community coaching youth baseball long after his sons were grown. He loved sports, especially baseball, and was a life long Mets fan who rooted for them since the team's inception. Howie was an avid runner too, completing the NYC Marathon twice. Among his many accomplishments, he was a proud charter member of BJs Wholesale Club in Paramus. Above all, he was happiest when he was laughing and spending time with his family.
Howie retired from dentistry with the love of his life, Patty, moved to South Jersey, and built his dream home in 2018 where he began the next chapter in his life. He is survived by his beloved Patty, his sons Jake and Marc, his daughters in law Marissa and Aimee, and his little pooper Ryan, in addition to his sister Janet Chocky and her family, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. There will be a celebration of Howie's life at his home in Manchester, NJ on Sunday, January 13th.
