Ruth Cashman (nee Sheinwald), age 96, and a 54-year resident of Glen Rock, NJ, passed away at her home on December 19, 2021.
Ruth was born on April 30, 1925 and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She attended Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn where she majored in art, and afterwards was employed as an animation illustrator by Max Fleischer Studios. There she worked on Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons, among others. She was happily married for 71 years to the love of her life and best friend, Morty, until his death in September 2018.
Ruth was a travel agent for many years and made friends in every country she visited. She was a talented artist and enjoyed attending local art classes. She was a lifelong learner and an avid reader. She was a long-time member of two local library book groups and always provided valuable contributions to them. Ruth loved to travel with Morty and enjoyed meeting new people. She enjoyed playing Bridge, doing the NYT Sunday crossword puzzles, listening to opera and classical music, gardening, dining out, and watching classic movies. Ruth was passionate about politics. She was a great conversationalist, a killer Scrabble player, a terrific cook, and a really, really good dancer. She enjoyed spending time with her children and granddaughter as often as possible. Ruth loved to laugh. She had a sunny disposition, and was always positive, even in illness. She always saw the glass as half full. Ruth was sweet, gentle, kind, generous and smart, and a beautiful person, inside and out. Her family came first and she was always supportive and there for them. She was a strong person who, along with Morty, kept her family together during times of crisis. Her children couldn't be prouder to have had her as their mother, and they consider themselves to be incredibly lucky. Ruth touched many lives and she will be profoundly missed.
Ruth is survived by her son, Marc, and daughter-in-law, Lola; her daughter, Ronnie Asea, and son-in-law, Mike; her granddaughter, Remy; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 12:30 PM in the Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah inside Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
Donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Heart Association, or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
