Lazar Cwirn, 96, of Forest Hills, New York, died May 18 following a long battle with dementia. Born in Sanok, Poland to parents Solomon and Toni Cwirn. They soon moved to Antwerp, Belgium where he enjoyed many sports including soccer and bicycling. As World War 2 approached, the family fled and lived in Safi, Morocco for a few years until they immigrated to New York City. Recognized and honored by the Diamond Dealers Club of America, Mr. Cwirn was a highly regarded diamond dealer on 47th Street. He was known for his ability to “design” rough diamonds into gems. He is predeceased by his brother, Israel. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lee. Theirs was a love affair for the ages. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Caren and her husband Bill, his grandchildren, Adam and Mollie Maisel, Jared and Leah Maisel, David Maisel and his significant other, Sydney Lampe. Three great grandchildren, Nathan, Noah and Graham. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 21 at 11:00 AM at Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel (Paramus, NJ). Graveside to follow.
